The Frankfort Library is pleased to announce that the first of four Hoosier Storytellers programs this year will be a conversation with popular Frankfort musicians Hunter Wainscott, Jason Wells, and Gibson Wells. On Monday, March 18th, starting at 6 pm, these good friends will take the stage in the Skanta Theatre to share stories about their passion for their craft, their musical journeys and their experiences on the road as Hoosier musicians. At the end of the conversation, these talented musicians will close out the program with a song or two.
Hunter Wainscott began writing songs as a child and now performs around the country as a solo acoustic Americana/folk/rock/country artist. Since 2018 Hunter has performed over 1,200 shows across America, including opening for many famous acts, connecting with audiences through music that reflects the life, struggles and love experienced by everyday people. In 2023, Hunter was invited to record in the Norman & Vi Petty Rock & Roll Museum in Clovis, New Mexico, where artists such as Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison and the Fireballs have recorded. Hunter’s first solo full-length record is set to release in 2024.
Jason Wells has spent many years playing and touring, and his songs reflect that rock ‘n’ roll life. Jason developed a passion for music as a youngster by listening to his father’s diverse record collection. Inspired by the likes of Peter Frampton, he dreamt of a career as a guitarist. Self-taught since age 12, he briefly set aside his musical aspirations for a more conventional life but the passing of his father in 2011 fueled his commitment to live his musical dream. The Jason Wells Band boasts five CDs, radio airplay and notable performances at venues like Buddy Guy’s Legends. Opening and sharing the stage with musical icons, Jason and his band have become a fixture in the Midwest scene.
Gibson Wells quickly became recognized as one of central Indiana’s youngest professional songwriters and guitarists when he joined his father Jason on stage as a young teen. His father not only influenced Gibson with his technique, showmanship, and performance, but also exposed him to some of the world’s greatest musicians and songwriters. Gibson is a multi-instrumentalist, proficient in drumming, bass, and guitar. His talents are featured on his original recordings, on which he plays all the instruments. His musical abilities–combined with his technical skills for mic placement, tracking and mixing–make him one of the region’s most desired studio engineers and session players.
Hoosier Storytellers is an ongoing series, where host Michael Clossin interviews guests of local interest as they discuss their unique experiences. The presentations usually last an hour, followed by questions from the audience. This interview will be recorded live on YouTube and will be archived on our website: myfcpl.org/online/podcasts/hoosier_storytellers. Registration is not required, and this program is free and open to the public.
